In this guide:
Identify the file before downloading
A Revu tool set is normally delivered as a BTX file or as a ZIP archive containing a BTX file. A profile, stamp, line style, and Tool Chest library solve different tasks. Check the visible file description and licence before importing anything into a project workspace.
Check the source and contents
Use the original publisher and look for a visible contents list, file type, import instructions, licence scope, and current compatibility statement. A broad label is not a substitute for a manifest. Keep job specific conventions in a separate project tool set so they do not change a shared library.
Import a BTX tool set
Extract a ZIP archive first. In Revu, open Tool Chest, choose Manage Tool Sets, choose Import, and select the extracted BTX file. Confirm the new set appears in the active profile, then place a test markup on a non-production drawing.
- 1Download from the original publisher.
- 2Extract the ZIP when the download is an archive.
- 3Open Tool Chest and choose Manage Tool Sets then Import.
- 4Choose the extracted BTX file.
- 5Test names, labels, and placement on a sample sheet.
Use a controlled shared library
Give tools clear names and labels that remain understandable in the Markups List. Record a version and owner before sharing a revised library. A reusable markup speeds repeat work, but the current drawing, legend, and project requirements remain the source of truth.
FAQs
Is a ZIP file the same as a BTX tool set?
No. A ZIP is an archive. Extract it and select the BTX file inside when importing a Tool Chest library.
Should I test a downloaded tool set first?
Yes. Test it on a sample PDF and confirm the tool names, labels, placement behaviour, and project conventions before team use.
