In this guide:
Build markups around the information people need
A punch tool should show what the issue is, where it appears, who owns the next action, the current status, and whether a comment or reference is required. Do not rely on colour alone for critical status.
Create or choose a controlled set
A general punch set can contain issue markers and status labels, while specialist sets can match a trade or inspection process. Follow the project punch-list procedure and create a project set when terminology or rules are client-specific.
Import and test a Punch BTX file
Extract an archive, import the BTX file from Tool Chest, verify the set in the active profile, and test a representative item on a sample drawing and in the Markups List.
- 1Download the source file.
- 2Extract any archive.
- 3Choose Tool Chest, Manage Tool Sets, then Import.
- 4Select the BTX file.
- 5Test a markup and its Markups List data.
Make punch items easy to close
Agree on status words, reassignment rules, close-out records, and any export behaviour before a live review. A clean Tool Chest helps consistency but does not replace a defined project process.
FAQs
Can I make custom Punch symbols?
Yes. Configure a markup, save it to Tool Chest, and test it against the project review process before wider use.
Does a Punch toolset track completion automatically?
A toolset provides reusable markups. Assignment, tracking, and close-out depend on the wider workflow and tools used by the team.
