Overview
Implementing enterprise governance for Bluebeam Revu markup tools establishes clear standards across design firms, general contracting organizations, and specialty trade teams.
The colours above are example team conventions. Agree on a project legend and ownership rules, and pair colour with readable labels.
| Organization Role | Color Assignment | Hex Color Value | Application Area |
|---|---|---|---|
| Structural Engineer | Red | #FF0000 | Structural Safety & Frame Notes |
| MEP Engineer | Blue | #0000FF | Mechanical & Electrical Coordination |
| Architectural Lead | Green | #008000 | Spatial & Aesthetic Revisions |
| General Contractor | Orange | #FFA500 | Constructability & Field RFI Notes |
| Subcontractor | Magenta | #FF00FF | Trade Installation Queries |
Put a shared standard into practice
- Assign one owner to approve the company library and record each release in a change log.
- Agree on Subject and Label names that colleagues can recognise in the Markups List. Set the project layer and appearance on a sample drawing before saving a tool.
- Keep reusable company symbols separate from client wording, temporary review statuses and other project-specific markups.
- Export the agreed BTX set and test its import on a second workstation. Check representative tools at the working drawing scale and in a printed or grayscale review.
- Choose either controlled local copies or a shared location. Confirm access permissions and the procedure for editing a shared set before team use.
- When a revision is approved, record what changed, publish the new release to the agreed location and retain the previous release for rollback.
Review before rollout
A review should check more than the appearance of the symbols. Confirm that names remain understandable outside the original drawing, required fields are present, measurements use the correct scale, and the file opens in the team's actual Revu version. A Tool Chest standard helps people work consistently; the approved drawing, specification and project procedure remain authoritative.
For a wider workspace setup, check whether a profile export includes its dependencies. Do not assume that sharing one BTX file transfers every custom column, toolbar or other workspace setting.
