Bluebeam Tool Chest Naming Conventions for Controlled Teams
Use a practical naming system for Revu Tool Sets, subjects, labels, profiles and BTX releases so users can identify the right construction standard quickly.

Name the System, Not Just the Symbol
A useful Tool Chest standard has several visible names: the Revu profile, Tool Set, BTX file, markup Subject, Label and optional custom-column values. Treat them as one controlled system. When each field follows a different pattern, users struggle to filter Markups Lists, compare releases and identify the approved master.
Use a Stable Tool Set Pattern
Build names from fields that remain meaningful outside the original project:
- 1Start with the company or standard owner when more than one organisation contributes tools.
- 2Add the discipline, such as Electrical, CCTV, Fire Alarm, Security, AV-Data, HVAC or Plumbing.
- 3Add the purpose only when it distinguishes separate libraries, such as Design, Survey or Takeoff.
- 4End with a controlled release such as v1.2 rather than Final or Latest.
- 5Keep the display name and exported BTX filename recognisably aligned.
Keep Subjects Consistent for Reporting
The Subject appears in the Markups List and is a primary field for filtering, grouping and custom-column logic. Use a short controlled value such as CCTV Camera, Door Contact or Duplex Outlet. Put project-specific detail in the Label, Comments or a custom column instead of creating near-duplicate Subjects for every drawing.
Choose Drawing Mode Deliberately
Bluebeam distinguishes Properties Mode from Drawing Mode. Properties Mode applies saved appearance while allowing new dimensions and content; Drawing Mode reproduces the saved markup more exactly. Include the intended mode in release testing because the same well-named tool can behave incorrectly if its saved mode does not match the workflow.
Publish a Small Release Record
For each approved BTX, record the Tool Set name, filename, version, owner, release date, supported Revu version and a short change summary. Export the approved set, test it in a clean profile and archive the previous release. This gives users a reliable answer when two similarly named sets appear in Revu.
